Liberal Senator Tommy Banks shills for shadowy anti-airport group

Unelected Liberal Senator Tommy Banks, who was appointed to the Senate by Jean Chretien against the wishes of the people of Alberta who had voted for Bert Brown twice for the job, has lent his voice to a 'shadowy' anti City Centre Airport group, yesforedmonton.com

Who are yesforedmonton?  We don't know.  A whois search reveals nothing as they have chosen to hide behind a proxy domain service, but there is plenty of speculation on who may be running this group.  ( I have no way of verifying if any of the info posted at that link is accurate so reader beware) (updated with Journal story on the above link)

Not that I am surprised that an unelected Senator, who accepted the appointment knowing full well that the people of Alberta had chosen someone else for the job, would stand against giving the people of Edmonton their democratic say by plebiscite if the airport should remain open or not, but what I do want to know is why did Senator Banks choose to record a video for a group that nobody seems to know for sure who set it up, who is running it, or where it gets its funding from?

Perhaps you can request his email records under Access to information policy?

I am confident Liberals will be forthcoming with providing the information about the group.

How about asking Dannielle Smith, maybe she might have an idea since she has to know the commings and goings in Alberta. And any 'unelected' senator who comes here to talk about something about an airport in edmonton needs investigating.

I read http://darrensbigscoop.wordpress.com/. Looks like Darren does have a scoop. If this story gains traction, Stephen Mandel will be defeated.

Developers will want to redevelop the land for massive profits. The new airport outside the city will be big contracts for friends to build it. But the real reason will be the underground facilities at the new airport, that is the real reason for this 'push.' (real conservative)

I'm voting Dorward for mayor and McKenna for councillor (Ward 12). Edmonton residents should have been given the opportunity to vote yes or no on keeping the downtown airport. Chuck McKenna (on Youtube, search "Chuck McKenna Edmonton") said a vote on the airport would have seriously energized this municipal election.

FYI - the city will be the developer of the airport lands, not any private developers.

I knew that warning about the blog I linked to was a good idea.

Post updated with Edmonton Journal story.

I still wonder though where yerforedmonton got their funding from, who is providing the office space and possibly staff, and why the need to hide behind a proxy registration.
