Another failed Liberal Photo op.

On Monday January 25th, 2010 Michael Ignatieff stood at a podium in front of the friendly Parliamentary Press Gallery, pointed behind him, and said "That chamber may shut and locked by Stephen Harper, but we know what Canadians want us to do today."

Yes Iggy, Canadians do want you to do something. At least make the attempt to look like you have a clue as to what you are talking about before asking for our votes.

The doors are wide open!

Updated with video:

And just in case you may think that this was just a one off from Ignatieff, may I remind you that this is not the first time we have seen such a gaffe from the deep thinker and touted "intellectual".

That's right. Ignatieff stood at another podium in front of the cameras, pointed behind him, and said "Look at the field behind me, it is not getting done," at a field that there was no plans to develop for 7 years! He also again tells us what Canadians expect of him: "This is us doing our job and this is what Canadians expect us to do." and again he fails miserably at that job.

Sorry Liberals, but Ignatieff is not up to the job and to be honest I am not even sure that he is even interested anymore.

Exactly what is the gaffe??

That the doors are open and showing an empty chamber and an absent Government??

Keep on believing that no one cares!!

What a moron. I'm not even concerned at any of the "scandals" the liberals bring up anymore, because time & time again, they have proved that they screw things up, and in their glee at these supposed scandals, they fail to do an adaquate job investigating before spouting their mouths off.

Hey, Anon7:32, Iggy said, "That chamber may shut and locked....".

In the picture, it obviously isn't.

There. I spelled it out for you.

If the media had any gonads, they'd be asking all those misery seekers (check out their bored looking faces, whoa), why THEY are not working.
The REAL WORK is done in their constituencies and most diligent and committed MP's, love getting back to that part of their JOB.

Alas, these are Liberals. They are not about the people, they are about themselves and their big drama, gotcha moments.

Empty Chamber? It's EMPTY, WITH or WITHOUT the Liberals. QP, is a complete farce and any Liberal PROUD of these people and their childish, irresponsible pranks are dupes.

And I'm sure the public believes that the Chamber was open for business.

Don't go int PR because u would be a failure Bert.

Liberals demonstrated that the Chamber was ready for use but that PMSH was not there to be held accountable to the House.

If you think that this has been a winning issue for the CPC good luck to you!

HAHAHAHAHA!!

Poor Iggy ...didn't any one of those sad faces think that maybe we should shut those doors to make our photo op look more realistic.

Nony...keep trying to spin this as anything other than another Iggy "opps" comment.

Well, nobody was in there, but maybe Mr. Ignatieff should get his talking points straight...

Good one AA.

What a laugh these clowns are.

And to think that the Grifter Party of Toronto thinks that stunts like this impress anyone but their vapid supporters.

So very weak and sad. The chamber is empty while Con MP's vacation in California. Canadians will make Harper pay next election.

So Nony, did you see where Ralph Goodale was when the CBC caught up with him last week? That's right, Scotsdale Arizona!

So for once I believed Goodale that he was actually pissed off yesterday, of course it was because he had to come back for this stupid photo op, but at least his outrage was real....

Liberals are supposed to be good at symbolism even at the expense of substance. Guys, at least shut the doors!

Great catch AA! The doors shut and locked. Obviously, the Great intelligent Harvard Professor,Mr Iffy or any of his Libranos looked behind them. What a farce of a photo op.
Bec, don't count on the Lame Stream Media to pick up on that. They are willfully blind.

If I was a PPG reporter, I would be pi$$ed at Iggy, for being so disorganized, and insisting on using the chaotic "scrum" format, where everybody shouts out questions at the same time.

He should make use of the PPG's National Press Theatre, alone up front at the table, with the reporters comfortably seated, and called on in an orderly way. Now THAT would make Iggy look a LOT more like a PM-in-waiting. Plus it would pump up his troops, seeing him like that.

But he's too damn chicken$shit to expose himself that way.

If you missed it, and are feeling masochistic, here is Iggy's pathetic scrum from yesterday on CPAC ... fast forward to the 55 minute mark.

Good catch.
While Harper and the Conservatives are working on the government's business, these sad sacks are hiding from their constituents in an empty parliament. Just them, the media. Without the house sitting, all their doing is shameless grandstanding.

Exactly wilson@ 8:55 am.....

They can't seem to find those doors AT ALL when it's time for to BE ACCOUNTABLE. If those that DON'T watch Quack&Pound (QP), they should take note of WHO DOESN'T show up. After Donollo took over Iggy's behaviour issues, he missed Quack&Pound for days and he sure wasn't speaking to world leaders or solving Canadian issues. I wonder why no one ever reminds him of that little gem. Or that he is rarely at any of the committee meeting that he has latched onto.

Hey what is up with this California BS? Do these lying Liberals ever stop shaming themselves with trash? It seems to be a pattern.I think I'll just give it a name....
..... Pinocchio Syndrome.....

I do believe that the PM was meeting with the PM of Haiti during this outrage of Mr Iggy. And I want proof that conservative MPs were on vacation in California on that day. They were all back in Ottawa on Jan 23. And, it was a lot of libs who left the country during the Christmas break, with Mr Iggy going to his villa in France. Goodale was in AZ and IRuby was in India.
Yelling, open these doors, when they are open is stupid.
Come on Mr Iggy, show your rage and guts, bring on an election.

Just as G&M Toronto Red Star CTV are continuing this prorogation crap; siding with Libs and Dippers commending them on getting back to work: Yet right Dippers work ethic involved standing in front of the Parliamentary doors singing Oh Canada off key; the Libs standing in front of open doors demanding PMSH open the doors: I guess that constitues doing Parliamentary business.

Never let a good photo op stand in the way of demonstrating the Canadian Government and Conservatives hard at work on the Haiti crisis, top level government memebers and Mark Carney representing Canada at an economic conference in Davos. By the way our Prime Minister is they key note speaker: Question to Ctv & the Mother Corp will they carry his speech live as they did for Barrack Obama's state of the Union address, or will they just do their usual stunt and bury the PM's speech in the archives.

ROFL

Classic Liberal photo opp failure.

I did same post with similar photos. Iffy also got the field location wrong.

Where did you get your information; or is this just a way to get your name in the blogs. If you want to talk about vacation your leader during the Christmas break which ended Jan 25th (monday)was in the south of France sipping wine and Brie: the other memeber of the coalition Jack Layton was in Belize sucking the sun. Meanwhile the PMSH during the Christmas break was in Canada with his cabinet organizing a quick and immediate response to the earthquake in Haiti. If I remember when the Tsunami hit Indonesia the then Foriegn Affairs Minister Pierre Petigrew was in his apartment in Paris and it took the Lib Government close to three weeks to finally get the Dart Team to Indonesia because there were no planes availabe to rent from Budget Rent-a-plane; more of Lib cuts to military equipment.

Before you open your mouth I suggest you do a little research first. ( engage brain )

I watched that presser. He said he was opening the doors, therefore it was the appropriate visual.

Suprising you would buy into this NDP bullshit spin line.

Ardvark said...

Updated with video for those factually/symbolically challenged.

It is like Ignatieff is just going through the motions, reading a script and not caring about what he is saying.

Anonymous said...

I noticed this at the time of Mr. Waffle's press conference.

Shades of Stefan Dion for sure!

I wonder how long we'll have to wait for Iffy's crew to blame this on a plot by the PM to usurp democracy?

What morons! Time to pick leader no. 3 Libs.!

Anonymous said...

It's as if Iffy's insisting on being PM and actually playacting because those old boys from TO promised he'd be PM, so he's thinking that this is as close as he's going to get.

That somehow, holding caucus meetings on issues brings him closer to his dream...you know the one where he's granted the PM's role by magic?

Here is your "effective" Liberal opposition in action.

Since the last election, Liberal MPs have skipped votes far more often than those in other parties — on average missing 14 per cent of recorded head counts.

Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff missed 49 per cent. Next to the leader, Liberal Foreign Affairs critic Bob Rae posted the worst voting record in his caucus, missing one third of all votes.

Conservative MPs on average participate in 95 per cent of recorded votes, the best rate of any party

I wonder what was going through the mind of the Liberal MP behind Iffy who looks back at the open doors just as Iffy says the place is locked. Around the 6 second mark on your video.

Sammy said...

Good Gawd! Looking at those mugs,I'd lock the door and NEVER let them in!
BTW,smooth move by Gerard Kennedy today..finally coming clean on the Libs wanting to raise taxes! On PP tonite,Fife said Iggy already scratching to try and bury this gaffe...and the Cons are all over it.Oh-oh,gerard your career is done.

Ardvark said...

I have not seen that yet, but are you saying that Kennedy screwed Ignatieff yet again? It is becoming a habit with that guy.

“There is no Liberal Party,” says one lifelong card carrier who has sat at cabinet tables.

“It died a long time ago. It's not completely extinct yet, but there's no there there.” In this lifelong Liberal's eyes, the party has been stalled for years. No new energy, no new ideas, no vision of what it might like to do. The singular advantage of proroguing, this Liberal would say, is that it has put an end to the squirming every time the opposition pounces.

“The ‘gotcha' stuff is out of control,” says the Liberal. “They bring in all these nerdy keener kids from campus and it's some kind of game to them. They're turning politics into pro wrestling.” The media concentrates on the top, Ignatieff, and on the Hill, but disenchanted Liberals say there is a story to be told far from the now-silenced sound bites of the Centre Block.

AA,the doofus Gerard was on PP tonite, and said it out loud, that he thot a tax hike would be needed to help with the deficit.Tom Clark seemed to be trying to help Gerard do the backtrack dance, but IT'S OUT THERE! Waiting patiently for the msm to be all over this...waiting..waiting.Oh yeah,Gerard's a Lib,it'll be buried just like the Boris 'Auschwitz jaunt' comment.

Ardvark said...

I feel bad. Kennedy was on with my MP Mike Lake and I missed it on the first go around but did watch it online later.

I must say Tom Clark sure did give him plenty of opportunities to weasel his way out.
