I guess this means that Michael Ignatieff is done messing with PM Harper.
And I bet the PM is so relieved too. (sarcasm off)
The Liberals are desperately trying to spin this capitulation of everything Ignatieff has been saying since January as a win, and that is OK because with a couple of more 'wins' like this Ignatieff is going to resemble the Black Knight in the video below.

update: The Hill Times on how Ignatieff overplayed his hand and how Ralph Goodale has no clue.
"I think undoubtedly he came out of this week as a winner. He was faced with a nose to nose challenge with the Prime Minister and he won," he said, noting all of the concessions that were made with regard to the EI file, the third accountability report and changes to the House Standing Orders, or rules".

I see this quite differently.
Both Harper and Ignatieff made a decision today whereby Canadians and our country's economy win.
THAT is what being in public office SHOULD be about.
We are so screwed up we think the political parties are the ones who should "score points" - like it is a game.
The winning politician in my opinion is the one who gets down to the business of managing this country, giving good ideas, - no matter who is in power.
Yes that is true, and that is what the government has been trying to do while the opposition screams about every little thing that comes along, both relevant and not.
I should also add that if you read my post it is based on Ignatieff's somewhat cryptic "I'll mess with you 'till I am done" comment, and the Liberals trying to score points over this.
Later, I have a nomination to attend.
How did you get your hands on the video of the PM Harper, Iggy meetings? LMAO...
Great post. This is really a epic fail for Iggy, and this post sums up why with great humor...
Perhaps most amusing is that Iggy walked haplessly into a trap set by Harper months ago.
Listening to Harper's news conference, i was surprised to learn that the September Update was not Iggy's at all, but Harper's.
Obviously Iggy's schedule was designed to be advantageous to Liberal election prospects; the September update was always advantage Harper...
The chess master strikes again!
The Monty Python skit is a perfect descriptive of the Canadian situation. My question is at which amputation is our Liberal leader at - one arm or two? The King has moved on, it may be necessary for Bob Rae to complete the task of removing the Black Knight's legs. Cheers.
"The winning politician in my opinion is the one who gets down to the business of managing this country, giving good ideas, - no matter who is in power."
I guess when Iggy and the Liberals were focusing on a 5 month old tape of a private conversation, that was "giving good ideas" and "managing the country"?
Right on, Alberta Girl!
Well, Liberals did give us the Green Shift and the Coalition of Losers...
some more Iffy ideas:
1-Not giving the Government any ideas they could 'steal'.
2-Not giving the Government any ideas because 'Harper gets to wear this recession'.
3-Promised a 'Liberal alternative budget in January',
it never materialized,
see 1 and 2.
If Harper believed Ignatieff would capitulate on anything, why give him anything?
While I understand you folk are going to say Harper "won", not everyone agrees. Some media say Ignatieff won - others say what little damage this may have done to Ignatieff will be forgotten by the time September comes around.
What I am getting at here is this: if Harper was the supreme winner here, why on earth would he give enough to Ignatieff to allow people to speculate that it was Ignatieff who came out ahead? It is not really a win when people are saying it is not a win.
But you guys keep trying to convince yourselves.
'It is not really a win when people are saying it is not a win.'
Really? The Liberal 'war room guy' is spinning his tail off claiming Iggy won. Perhaps your comment might be better off posted over there since my post is merely making fun of his spin.
I expect the party and their professional spinners to spin.
Bloggers are a different story. If you take a look at liblogs I think you will see the reviews are mixed...as they should be, on both sides of this political fence.
You know Gayle, you are making my point on spin for me.
Calling this a win by Ignatieff is just silly.
Actually, you are making MY point for me.
There are legitimate reasons to say Ignatieff won - despite your clever argument that is just "silly".
You can deny it all you want, but the old Harper never would have given him anything if he thought he did not have to.
I have already said elsewhere I think Ignatieff erred by making demands in the first place, but I never expected Harper to give him anything. The fact he did says a lot.
I am not suggesting Ignatieff won, just that Harper did not win either. The fact that there are reasonable arguments on both sides of that equation kind of makes it a draw.
By the way, the CBC was neutral on this story last night, and did not play it until about 15 minutes into their broadcase. CTV lead with it and said that Ignatieff won.
He won. No he didn't. Yes he did. Oh no he didn't....
That is what I am getting at Gayle. As you have pointed out, this is not as cut and dried as some would have us believe and to spin it as a clear cut win for Ignatieff, as you know who is doing, IS silly.
It does however allow me to make a easy blog post now and again though.
Then we are agreed.
Maybe you should tell some of your posters here though, since they seem to think Harper came out on top. They were, after all, the people I was referring to in my initial post.
Only if you go over to WK's place and tell him to stop spinning that Iggy won the day.
