Opposition political parties: We need our $1.75 per vote subsidy and we are willing to spend an additional 300 million of your tax dollars for another election during a time of financial downturn to do so.
Sounds like a winning election strategy to me.

Concurrance.
I can't believe the opposition is this stupid.
The budget is balanced, the liberals don't have the seats to form a government without making a deal with the NDP (which will no doubt include a HUGE increase in government spending and a green tax to pay for it) to which the result will be a shut down of the oil patch north, west and east.
All because Harper is going to make political parties live under the same rules as everybody else.
All the issues the liberals caved on and the one hill they choose to stand and fight is for their Chretien legacy tax payer funded subsidy.
''All the issues the liberals caved on and the one hill they choose to stand and fight is for their Chretien legacy tax payer funded subsidy.''
And take a stand with a lame duck leader, debt up to the eyes, and need the separatists to make their wish come true.
The Coalition of the Entitled want to give Canadians those big big deficit budgets they were expecting! instead of the Conservative balanced budgets.
To assume the GG would ask another party, or parties, which would include a party dedicated to the destruction of Canada, to form government over having another election is a very big risk and in no way guaranteed.
A risk that the Liberals and NDP are willing to wager 300 million of taxpayer money on.
