This may be about the dumbest thing that I have read in a long time.
An Ottawa children’s soccer league has introduced a rule that says any team that wins a game by more than five points will lose by default. In the name of making things 'fair' they are going to actually make the kids on the weaker teams more embarrassed by forcing other teams to pity them by holding back and not try their hardest.
In other words, treat the lesser team as if they are not even worthy of your best efforts.
WTG Gloucester Dragons Recreational Soccer league. This will sure raise the self esteem of all the players involved.
How humiliating; for both sides.
h/t The National Post.
Updated: My wife had a very interesting comment on this. If a team is down a couple of goals they now could try to lose on purpose and get the win. Example: Down 4 goals with seconds remaining, just pop one into your own net and win the game!
Have this happen a couple of times and you can bet this goofy rule would be changed.
Update June 11, 2010. Common sense wins out! They have now dropped this silly rule change in exchange for calling the game if the score gets too lopsided but allowing teams to continue to play if they desire.

You may have missed this yesterday
A couple of things that you may have missed yesterday thanks to the ever vigilant and balanced Canadian MSM.
McGuinty prorogues the Ontario legislature. Heard about it? No; why not? Wasn't the outrage over the "anti-democratic" practice of prorogation recently the subject that the media couldn't stop talking about? When the PM prorogued it was on TV for days on end, it was the subject of hundreds of columns in the papers across the country, and there were few if any political blogs that didn't weigh in on the topic. But when McGuinty does it we get almost nothing for coverage other than a couple of stories and some of those deal more with a bizarre press tradition than the subject of prorogation, which we were recently told by that very same media, outraged Canadians so much. Why the double standard? Kady? Anyone?
Does anyone but me find it odd that legislative press galleries have actually developed their own traditions revolving around prorogation? It is almost as if proroguing was a common occurrence or something, but that couldn't be because that same press was saying something entirely different just a few weeks ago. Weird.
And speaking of outrage, or rather a lack of it, where was the MSM on the recent revelation that an outbreak of Liberal flu is imminent and that they are going to be playing games with the vote on the budget?
Yesterday Ignatieff came out and said that the Liberals were going to vote against the budget, but there would not be enough Liberals to show up to vote against it to force an election.
Wow. Just freakin' wow. Why is the MSM in this country just regurgitating Liberal press releases and taking democracy lessons from Ignatieff, a man who has NEVER won any nomination/leadership contest in his life, or the Liberal Party who ignored the wishes of its own members and party constitution by letting a handful of unelected people appoint Ignatieff?
Think about it for a minute. There are only 2 possible ways that the scenario Ignatieff expressed can occur. The first is to ask for volunteers from among the ranks of Liberal MP's for those who want to avoid doing their job (remember prorogation and how important it was to be on the Hill working) and to not represent those that elected them by being absent from the vote, or Ignatieff chooses which MP's are going to be allowed to be there to represent the people who elected them to do their jobs. Either way it is not an example of how democracy should work and considering all of the outrage over prorogation from the Liberals since before Christmas and which continues to this day as shown yesterday when in oral questions the first question that Ignatieff asked was on prorogation, how the hell are the Liberals getting such a free ride from the media on the hypocrisy of the whole thing?
I should not get my hopes up too high because even if the media did ask Ignatieff about the particulars of how he is going to accomplish his plans for the budget vote (or on anything else for that matter) he would use his standby answer and say that he 'does not answer hypotheticals' in one breath and then claim that he is offering the Canadian public a real alternative in another. An alternative that does not answer any specific questions or offer up any policy I guess, but the media would buy it and give him yet another pass. I might as well hope that the MSM call out Jack Layton for his complaints about tax breaks for banks and corporations, the very same tax cuts that he signed off on and agreed to implement when he was negotiating to be part of the coalition. Sadly though I doubt that either one will happen.
Update: another Liberal talking point bites the dust.
"Flaherty’s travel arrangements became news last weekend when CTV broke the story that he had flown to London on a government jet rather than going commercial at a cost of $800.

"Flaherty’s travel arrangements became news last weekend when CTV broke the story that he had flown to London on a government jet rather than going commercial at a cost of $800.
As it turned out, one reason Flaherty used a government plane was so he could be up in time to do an interview with, uh, CTV, which initially reported he had commandeered a Challenger at a cost of $9,000, much more than the Cessna Citation he actually flew on at a cost of $3,100. Oh, and because he was doing 11 radio and five TV interviews in the morning, three staffers were along. So their equivalent commercial costs of $2,400 meant Flaherty was actually saving $100."

A Tale of 2 McGuinty's
Premier of Ontario Dalton McGuinty on the very real ehealth scandal: "We will not be moving ahead with a public inquiry.”
Liberal MP David McGuinty:"We believe this is probably the most massive propaganda effort of any kind ever seen at the federal level in Canadian history." as the Liberals file 55 complaints with the ethics commissioner, and ask Elections Canada, the Public Service Commission and the auditor general also to investigate the long standing practice of using (FAKE) giant novelty cheques which McGuinty believes Canadians are too stupid to know are not real.
Quite the contrast between brothers no?
A couple of more interesting quotes from David McGuinty:
On Adscam: “There was an examination and the Liberals paid money back. That’s over and there are new standards.” ( Perhaps if the Liberals had used giant novelty cheques I might not have missed this payback of money that the LPC has to this day refused to tell Canadians which Quebec Liberals received the stolen cash.)
The Liberal star is clueless on 10-percenters: "I stand to be corrected, the NDP may have done that in the past,'' he said. '' I don't recall ever seeing a Liberal logo on a 10-percenter. That is a flagrant abuse of taxpayers' money. If you're using public resources to further the cause of your own party in held or unheld ridings, it's against the rules. And if it's not against the rules, it's against common sense." Yes it is true; David McGuinty wants us to believe that he has NEVER seen a LPC logo on any 10-percenter in all of his years as a Liberal MP, including the ones that HE has sent out , and he has the nerve to suggest that it is the conservatives who are treating the voters as idiots.
FYI David, note the LPC logo on this example of a Liberal 10-percenter.

McGuinty's Green Ontario
McGuinty's Green Ontario, where they do things greener and better than anyone else and where car pooling is illegal.
The province's Public Vehicles Act states, "No person shall arrange or offer to arrange transportation of passengers by means of a public vehicle operated by another person unless that other person is the holder of an operating licence authorizing that other person to perform the transportation."
Ontario, yours to discover. Just take your own car to do it.

Mayor Miller, Jim has a foolproof idea for you.
Attention Mayor David Miller.
Jim Travers from the Star has a great liberal idea that is guaranteed to solve your money problems.
You see, and the statistics do not lie, because the crime rate is down there is no real need to worry about crime in general, and subsequently there will be no need for Toronto to have such a large and costly police force. You could cut about 25% right off the top, and save the city MILLIONS of those badly needed dollars.
Simple, and how can it fail? A great liberal idea, carried out by a liberal mayor; a dynamite combination for success if there ever was one.
It could get even better once this country wakes up to Harper's secret agenda and we return the Liberals to their rightful place in power. With the Libs back in power it is obvious that an even greater drop in the crime rate will be sure to follow, and the police force could again be easily cut to a size of about half of what exists today.
Just think what you could do if you had 50% of that police budget to do the things that really matter.

Did Dalton lie trying to cover up an earlier lie?
I didn't want to post much about the Ontario election as I do not live there, but after reading tonight about the debate and how Dalton McGuinty came out and addressed his broken promise about raising taxes, even making a video/commercial about it, I had a question.
McGuinty, in trying to cover and justify his lie with the reasons why he raised taxes, said this:
"I got there and ahh, discovered that there was no money"
Now my question; Is that really true? Did McGuinty not know while he was the leader of the opposition and before he took over the big chair, that the Eves government was running a deficit? Was the news of an Ontario deficit some big secret that no one was aware of, or is this an example of a Liberal using one lie to cover for another?
I think the MSM might have a question or 2 that they may want to ask Dalton about this. Over to you MSM.
Signed, uninformed about Ontario politics in Alberta.

This is going to be tough for some Ontatrio Liberals to swallow.
The Liberal Premier of Ontario, Dalton McGuinty, backs the Harper Government budget. The very same budget the the Liberal dominated Senate is thinking about amending or even killing completely, which seems to be against the wishes of their great leader Dion.
That last set of commercials are starting to look more brilliant as each day passes.
Update: Joanne has a blog entry and a link to an article from Chantal Hébert warning Liberal Senators that playing around with the budget may not be in the best interests of anyone, including Dion and the Liberal Party.
