If the CPC were really trying to hide their dealings in the so called "In and Out" scandal, they have not been doing a very good job of it. So in an effort to help out, I humbly offer up some suggestions as to what is normally done when you are secretly conspiring to break the law.
Keep it small. Involving numerous candidates, official agents, countless local campaign workers, party staff, and an outside advertising agency with all of it's employees, does not a secret make.
Don't file factual forms and paper work. A good scandal requires you to make stuff up. Actually putting the correct information about money spent on the Election Canada paperwork is just bad scandal form.
Don't challenge those that make the rulings. Poking a bear with a stick will only cause problems, and not recommended when conducting shady dealings.
Do not go public by bringing your actions before courts. Anyone involved in a scandal knows that secrecy is the key. Using the courts, or the media kind of blows the clandestine nature of your average conspiracy out of the water.
Don't take lessons from the opposition parties. Yes the Liberal Party of Canada did manage to get away with Adscam as far as Elections Canada is concerned and they WILL NEVER have to reveal just which Liberal candidates got that money, but..... Oops, just hang on a minute. Maybe taking lessons from the Liberals is a good idea when you are planning a conspiracy after all.
Lets get this thing before a judge soon.

FITNA should receive tax credits from the Canadian government
Or at least it should have if FITNA were made in Canada; according to NDP shill Oscar-nominee Sarah Polley and everyone else on the left crying censorship over bill C-10.
The left and various Harper haters are in an uproar because the government wants to pass Bill C-10 which contains a provision, originally created by the Liberals by the way, which would allow the government to refuse tax credits to film or television productions deemed offensive. Imagine that, a government in its role as the steward of our tax dollars, trying to make sure those dollars are not spent on hard core porn or other such projects that the majority of Canadians would not want that money spent on.
The crux of the argument against c-10 is that someone (meaning a government bureaucrat) would be deciding which projects qualify for the tax credits and which do not. Even though the minister responsible has stated that she will work with the entertainment industry to draw up a precise definition of what projects would be deemed too offensive to receive government tax credits, the lefties are against the idea and are crying censorship. Funny how in the case of films or television productions that many on the the left think that tax money must flow to all projects regardless of their nature, but with other issues such as child care or tax cuts, they are more than happy to decide for everyone just who should qualify, and more importantly, who should not.
Because this deals with the so called arts, does not mean that it should be exempt from any rules. If we are going to be putting tax dollars towards this industry, there must be some kind of rules as to how and where those dollars get spent. It is more than just common sense, it is what I and most Canadians would expect the government to do whenever anyone comes with their hands out looking for our tax dollars.
All this faux outrage makes me wonder just how many of those against C-10 would have an issue with homegrown remake of Triumph of the Will . Or is even Nazi propaganda entitled to our tax dollars without any rules or government oversight? What say you?

The federal government moves to block sale of MDA
From the CBC : The federal government on Thursday blocked the $1.3-billion sale of the space technology division of Vancouver-based MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates to a U.S. firm.
In a letter this week to Alliant Techsystems Inc., Industry Minister Jim Prentice said he is not satisfied the sale will be a net benefit for Canada, the minister confirmed Thursday.
Alliant has been given 30 days to state its case to win approval for the sale.

Toughening up Consumer Product Laws
The good news stories about the Conservative government continue with yesterdays announcement of an overhaul of Canada's outdated product safety laws . Some of these old laws and regulations have not been updated in decades nor have they kept up with the changes of todays world wide economy. At least not until yesterday.
In what has already been a good week for getting things done for Canadians, this can only be called another feather in the cap of the Prime Minister.
Congratulations Mr. Harper on continuing to do what most Canadians expect their government to do; while the desperate Liberals go back in time, almost as long as some of these outdated product laws, looking for dirt to try to smear your government with.
It is all the Liberals have.

Conservatives set record for settling native land claims.
The Harper Government is quietly getting more things done in Ottawa, while the opposition Liberals led by Stephane Dion are too concerned with their own fortunes and internal strife to even bother with their jobs by voting on issues before the house.
OTTAWA — The Conservative government resolved a record number of native land-claim disputes this year in a bid to improve relations with Canada's aboriginals and spur economic development on reserves.
Former Indian Affairs minister Jim Prentice caused a stir in his department last year when he quietly ordered public servants to conclude at least 50 specific land-claim disputes for the fiscal year ending Monday.
OTTAWA — The Conservative government resolved a record number of native land-claim disputes this year in a bid to improve relations with Canada's aboriginals and spur economic development on reserves.
Former Indian Affairs minister Jim Prentice caused a stir in his department last year when he quietly ordered public servants to conclude at least 50 specific land-claim disputes for the fiscal year ending Monday.
Meeting that target was left to his successor, Chuck Strahl, who confirmed yesterday that 54 claims have been resolved, of which 37 involved financial settlements.
"It was a big, all-out effort to do that," said Mr. Strahl, who took over the department last August.
The 34-year historical record of the specific claims process shows the ambitiousness of the target. On average, only 14 claims are concluded each year. The average annual amount paid out in settlements is $63.7-million.
The most productive year previously on record was 1993-1994, when the government paid out 30 specific claims settlements at a total cost of $263-million. The final tab for this year's record number of settlements will be about $70-million, Mr. Strahl said, which is only slightly higher than an average year. Mr. Strahl acknowledges that the department likely went after some of the simplest disputes to meet the demands of their political bosses.
"You want to do the low-hanging fruit first, that's for sure," he said. "I certainly gave no instruction that way, but it wouldn't surprise me."
Sources told The Globe and Mail that some native leaders expressed concern to Mr. Prentice that the bureaucracy would stop negotiating while the federal government established a new specific claims tribunal. To assuage those concerns, Mr. Prentice made the 50-claim promise.
The bill establishing the tribunal, C-30, was introduced last November and is still in the House of Commons. The new tribunal would have the power to make $250-million in settlement payments a year for 10 years with the aim of reducing the backlog of nearly 800 claims. Mr. Strahl expressed frustration that the bill has yet to become law, given that it has broad support.
"I am starting to get concerned about it. It's always possible an election could interrupt the process," he said.
There are two main types of land claims. Specific claims involve native communities arguing that their land or money has been stolen or misused. Common examples include reserve land used for highways or rail lines without compensation. From 1927 to 1951, it was illegal for lawyers to take on native clients for claims against the Crown.
The second type, called comprehensive claims, are usually larger and more expensive. These claims resolve land disputes with natives who never signed treaties with the government or establish self-government arrangements outside of the Indian Act.
Alberta lawyer Ron Maurice represents natives in land-claim disputes and worked with Mr. Prentice at the Indian Claims Commission and in private practice.
According to his contacts, Mr. Maurice said, not all public servants welcomed Mr. Prentice's 50-claim target.
"It's fair to say though that there are probably other people within the [specific claims] branch that saw it as being unrealistic or too onerous," he said.
Mr. Maurice said the focus on resolving land claims highlights a "sea change" in aboriginal policy.
In contrast to the 2005 Liberal plan signed in Kelowna, B.C., that would have spent $5-billion on programs for aboriginals, Mr. Maurice said Conservatives are spending money to resolve land claims in the hope that communities can raise their own revenue to meet social needs.
"I would think it's probably just a matter of course before the government expects first nations to look at their own source of revenues and the settlement of these land claims as one means of funding other aspects of band governance," he said.
Herman Crain, a band councillor with Saskatchewan's Muskoday First Nation, says a recent $10-million settlement will buy urban reserve land in Prince Albert.
He said the community could set up an on-reserve urban convenience store to sell tax-free cigarettes to status Indians living in the city.
"I think doors have started to open now," he said.

Human Rights Commission: UN Edition
Being that most of you are familiar with what is going on in Canada with some of our various Human Rights Commissions, I thought it might be of interest to take a look at what has been going on at the UN and their Human Rights Council.
The top U.N. rights body on Thursday passed a resolution proposed by Islamic countries saying it is deeply concerned about the defamation of religions and urging governments to prohibit it. Although the text refers frequently to protecting all religions, the only religion specified as being attacked is Islam, to which eight paragraphs refer.
The UN Human Rights Council adopted Thursday the resolution-- proposed by Islamic countries-- on a 21-10 vote over the opposition of Europe and Canada. (Thank you Mr. Harper)
Speaking for the EU, Slovenian Ambassador Andrej Logar said the 27-nation body was committed to tolerance, nondiscrimination and freedom of religion. But instead of a one-sided approach, it would be better to engage in dialogue with mutual respect.
The Saudi delegation said, "Maybe Islam is one of the most obvious victims of aggressions under the pretext of freedom of expression." "It is regrettable that there are false translations and interpretations of the freedom of expression," the Saudi delegation told the council, adding that no culture should incite to religious hatred by attacking sacred teachings."

This week in the Battle for free speech.
Good news from the Ost front this week as Tuesday's human rights tribunal hearing in Ottawa gets set to go. I am going to be watching this one closely as a little light starts to shine into the dark recesses of the HRC and the way it does business. It is sure to be the big news throughout the blogosphere this week, and that in itself will should cause the MSM to cover it.
Warren "the decider" Kinsella gets even more pathetic.
Before I forget: for anyone attending the Heritage Front/Maclean's hearing at the CHRC in Ottawa tomorrow, I will pay $100 for a clear photo of Lemire and Steyn together, ideally shaking hands. I'll pay more for actual footage.
Given how palsy the two conservative stalwarts have become, I would imagine that none of this should be objectionable to either Mark."
Any guesses as to how he would spin such a picture on his blog?
This is all he has folks. No real arguments that can stand on their own merit, but rather weak and cheap attempts to tie those who disagree with him on free speech to somehow equate this view as support for organizations like the Heritage Front or any other neo nutball groups out there. Could this guy stoop any lower?
Christian Conservative got the pot boiling earlier tonight with his thoughts on a comment made on another blog. While I agree the 'joke' was not in good taste, and perhaps was made in reference to other events rather than as an intended slam of Warren's late father, I will always support the rights of Mr.West to make such comments. It kind of goes with the territory, just as I think Kinsella can say what he wants, even if he is wrong.
Here is what I said in a comment on CC's blog on the subject of censors.
"What makes anyone out there think that they should ever be able to arbitrate what I may or may not say, think or express? Who the (insert foul comment here) are YOU to decide that?
When Kinsella and the like who try to defend the indefensible and emulate George Bush and want to be the "decider" for what I have to say. Well than sorry, I ain't hopping on that bus as I don't trust the driver."
Coincidently the blog post by Clive was about our misguided friend Warren trying to spin World War 2 to his benefit. Hey Warren, how does thatexploitation, err I mean explanation as to why Canadian men fought in WW2 explain that little declaration of war thing by Canada against Japan?

Breaking: Liberal infighting continues. Iggy compares Rae to...
This just in from AWM (Anteater Worldwide Media™).
Michael Ignatieff, Member of Parliament for Etobicoke-Lakeshore, former leadership contender, and Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada shocked the camp of newly elected MP Bob Rae earlier this week when he compared Mr. Rae to that of the late great comedian Bob Hope. On his blog, Mr. Ignatieff made the following curious entry dated March 15th.

Liberal insiders are saying that this may just be a case the current big dog on the hill for the LPC just spraying a little bit in the direction of the new pup, but our source close to the Rae campaign had something a little more ominous to say when we caught up with her earlier today.
"What do you mean he said Bob Rae was funny?
What do you mean, you mean the way he talks? What?
Funny how? What's funny about it?
You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little #%$&@ up maybe, but Rae is funny how, I mean funny like he is a clown, and he amuses Iggy? He makes him laugh, that Rae is here to &#%@' amuse him? What do you mean funny, funny how? How is he funny?"
The interview ended there as our source stormed out of the Starbucks almost spilling her extra large frothy coffee beverage, and she was heard mumbling under her breath something about calling Rae being a really good fellow and that Mr.A from across the river would not be happy when he hears of this. When pressed later in a telephone inquiry about the meaning of her last muttering, our source denied making the statement and asked if we knew of a good travel agent.
This all after reports of even more dissension coming from within the top ranks of the Liberal Party of Canada. Speculation that there is an active campaign against Stephane Dion from within as party leader continues to grow as the story made Canada's top political program.

Ezra's recent post on the inner workings of the Alberta Human Rights Commission has brought back some memories of Farhan Chak, the former candidate for the Liberal Party of Canada in Edmonton Millwoods Beaumont. Cherniak channels JFK
Shorter Jason Cherniak: Ask not what the Liberal Party have done for you, ask what you have done for the Liberal Party.
Jason wants Libloggers to tow the party line and thinks that all of this whining is not good for the Liberal party, not that anyone is really paying attention mind you, but if they are, this is not helping.
Some select quotes:
"Liberals in Ottawa tell us we're not ready for an election yet. What does that mean? Nobody except the decision makers can be sure. However, as I argued yesterday, I don't think that should matter to a grassroots Liberal."
"Liberal bloggers need to add one more question to that mix. Is your blog helping the cause or hurting it? If you want an election, are you more likely to get it by complaining in public? Or are you more likely to get it by showing your support for Stéphane Dion?"
"The media have reported often enough that Mr. Dion wants an election, so why not support his apparent preference? First and foremost, has Mr. Dion ever said that he wants an election? Or is the media basing their reports on anonymous sources who might have ulterior motives?"
and lastly he has this little gem to finish his post with. "If you want an election, then do what you can to help make our party ready. Don't moan and whine while you sit at home on your computer. That simply isn't helping."
Ouch, I think there may be a lot of hurt feelings in parents basements all over Canada from that last comment.
Update: at least 1 Liblogger has called it quits while some others are speaking out on the idea of towing the line for Dion.

"Where are the Greens"? My new and non Liberal blogging friend Idealistic Pragmatist asks that very timely and probing question, and gives some thoughtful analysis & opinion on the Greens silence for Liberals lack of support for the recent NDP non confidence motion on the environment.
I agree with almost everything she wrote and have to wonder as well, just how far does that deal between Elizabeth May and Stephane Dion really go. They said it was limited only for their own 2 ridings, but in truth it looks to have gone much farther than that. As IP noted there seems to be NO criticism from the Green Party on anything to do with Dion and the Liberals. You would think it obvious by the way many Libloggers are going after their own leadership under Dion, that a competing political party would at the very least be raising some questions of their own. Yet there is silence from the Green Party.Is this lack of criticism part of the deal or perhaps,
Could a full fledged merger be in the works between the Liberals and Green Party?
The Greens already look to be going out of their way to play extra nice with their leaders Liberal friends, and since May has already endorsed Dion to be Prime Minister, I don't see it as out of the range of possibility that they take it a step further and try merging the 2 parties.
It is a risky proposition but given the recent setbacks of the Liberals it could be a possible strategy. If you take a look to the polls (take your pick) the differences in support between the CPC and LPC has been relatively consistent since the election. Now if the Liberals could manage to add on the Greens numbers to that of their own, they easily become top dog in the race.
While I do not see the numbers going that way if a merger did indeed happen, just the thought of it occurring might just be enough for the desperate Dion led Liberals to make the attempt.
I think we should be keeping on this one, because you just never know what will happen.
After all, the Libs have nothing else and the clock is ticking on the Liberal self destruct timer.

Is this the type of election advertising we might see when, or if, Dion figures the weather is going to good enough to pull the plug and force an election? If I were a Liberal supporter I would be very uncomfortable with how this type of ad might play with Canadians; considering everything we have seen so far from Dion as "leader".

Liberal Strategists where are you?
Can someone from the Liberal side of the spectrum please explain to me just what the Liberal motion of non confidence in the Bloc and NDP is, or was, intended to do? I have looked at this motion in the current circumstances and have no idea how this motion helps the LPC cause in anyway what so ever.
The reaction from the sometimes loyal to a fault Libloggers is not even mixed; it is, at the point of writing this, 100% opposed and or confused by this little example of LPC strategy under the so called leadership of Stephane Dion. That in itself says something when even the most loyal members of your base think this is a stupid idea.

The PM's secret and other such oddities from yesterday.

I see that there is breaking news that the PM Harper may be influencing the Democratic nomination. Unfreaking believable! I mean if it was to sabotage Obama, the only possible conclusion would be that PM Harper is keeping a dirty little secret. He is a Hillary supporter.
Come clean Mr.Harper, and reveal your secret agenda. Are you indeed a Hillary supporter, and when did you know it? Also why, after so clearly leaning towards Edwards early on, have you decided to switch teams now? The Canadian public supports honesty, time to be honest with the Canadian public sir.

The day gets more strange as after discovering that my PM supports Hillary Clinton, I then learn that my Conservative MP supports Jack Layton. From The Phantom Observer "Does Mike Lake support the NDP" When will this madness end!!

Oddities of science from Global TV reporter Mike Drolet as he told us on the Global National News of March 5, 2008 that "..there is still six weeks left until spring", also noting near the end of his story that "..with more than a month left of winter chances are good we are not out of the woods yet."

..this government has failed to introduce policies which will diminish the inequality between men and women, in particular by its refusal to provide adequate resources and policies governing child care; legal assistance; long-term care; home care; health care; support for women's equality seeking groups; support for seniors; support for Aboriginal and minority women; pay equity; reform of employment insurance; support for preventing violence against women; public housing and transportation and other services so vital to the hard working women of this country.
It is nice to know that I can always count on Jack Layton to bring me back to reality from such a day of strange happenings. I can always count on the fact that Jack Layton is and will always be a socialist.

15 years of Liberal domination ended for Edmonton Millwoods
Congratulations to Carl Benito for his win in Edmonton Millwoods over incumbent Liberal MLA Weslyn Mather. Carl worked very hard and seemed to be everywhere in the riding during the campaign and in the end his hard work paid off as Millwoods has elected their first PC MLA in 15 years.
As a quick side note, Carl Benito has again pledged to give his salary this year to a scholarship program to help area youths. That is approx $75,000 out of his own pocket.
Well done Mr. Benito.
And Weslyn, if the way that you treated myself with a total lack of response to emails sent to both of your MLA offices was representative of the way you dealt with your other constituents; the loss was well deserved.

Liberal Strategy 101: When you got nothing else, or you need to take the eyes of the nation away from internal Liberal woes, cry scandal.
Cadscam is just another such example. This story is still developing and I will update as more facts come up, but are there any takers on how this one will turn out?
No, I do not claim to have the spooky Kreskin like powers of Rick Mercer and know the future, but it feels like I have seen this movie before. In fact I think I have seen this same plot line many times over the last 2 years in MSM/LPC productions.

The Supreme Court backs mandatory sentences
The SCOC has issued a landmark ruling defending Parliament's right to create mandatory minimum criminal sentences, and to have those measures enforced by reluctant judges.
It couldn't have come at a better time as the unanimous decision, written by Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin, comes only a day after the Harper government's new crime law -- which includes higher mandatory prison terms for certain gun crimes -- received royal assent from the Governor-General.

Rick Mercer, modern day political Nostradamus.
Rick Mercer must be some kind of seer of the Canadian political scene, and frankly his Nostradamus like powers scare me.
Sometime recently he had the "vision", perhaps while he was in the centrifuge or perhaps it was in a dream, but at some point Rick Mercer foresaw the future. Then he rented a choir, some acrobats, a couple of unicycle riding jugglers, procured some low budget but flashy pyrotechnic devices, rehearsed what by Canadian television standards would have to be called an extravagant musical number, filmed it all, did the editing and still managed to get it to air the same day as the Federal Budget comes out.
How did he know Dion would again cave? I mean with Liberal MPs, all of of the bloggers who thought otherwise, , and MSM pundits thinking an election was near; how could Rick Mercer know this in advance? And will he promise to only use this power for good and not evil? That my friends is the real question.
I think after I call CSIS, I am going to line my walls with tinfoil and hope Rick Mercer doesn't mind being exposed.

Private Members Bill C-423
Here is another reason why I continue to support my Member of Parliament, Mike Lake. His private members Bill C-423, an Act to amend the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
In a nut shell Bill C-423 will use a carrot by adding a ‘referral to substance abuse treatment’ to the current list of extrajudicial measures available to police officers when dealing with young persons, particularly first-time offenders accused of committing non-violent offenses, and a stick because if a young person referred to a treatment program does not complete it, the police officer may initiate judicial proceedings.
In my opinion Mikes bill is well balanced change to the current act that will not only give the police more options when dealing with young offenders who may have substance abuse issues, but will give the young offender an opportunity to help themselves.
So far the Bill has received support from members from all sides of the House, and currently is awaiting its turn before the Justice Commitee.

This changes nothing
According to the National Post, the much offended Syed Soharwardy has dropped the charges against Ezra Levant after he had published those wacky Mohammad cartoons.
While I am happy for Ezra not to have to deal with this sham of a complaint, I am a bit saddened that this never made its way into a REAL court where good old section 13 could be dealt with for what it is; an unconstitutional limit on free speech. That will have to wait for another day, but until then, and I think it will be sooner rather than later, the battle for free speech goes on.

Red or blue? For free speech or against it. There really is no gray area with this one, and those who claim otherwise will be exposed for what they really are, and no amount of spin will change the colour of the paper.

A bad day for Bob Rae.
Stephane Dion's choice as foreign affairs critic for the Liberal Party of Canada, the unelected Bob Rae, had what might be called his worst day since his defeat as Ontario Premier in the 1995 elections where, as leader of the NDP, he took his party from a majority of 74 seats to a dismal 17.
Today Bob Rae not only came to the realization that Canada may indeed be involved in counter insurgency operations in Afghanistan, he also showed the country that he has no clue about how military operations are carried out, nor about just how far a government should be micro managing those operations from Ottawa.
If the Liberals are deluded enough to think that they should be directing the daily combat actions of our military from Ottawa, than I hope the troops do get pulled out of Afghanistan because these arrogant clowns in the LPC will end up costing lives on the ground. Canada has a very well trained and responsible Armed Forces who know how to handle their military operations, and they do so without broadcasting their plans and protocols to the world. How they quietly handled the prisoner issue goes to enforce just how professional our troops are in the job they have been tasked with by our government, NATO, and the UN.
Combat operations should not be run in public by consensus, nor should they be run from a classroom run by a nerdy professor with Marxist ideas. Only fools, incompetents, or ones who choose to play politics on the backs of our military would 'think' otherwise.
Which of these would better explain the actions of either Bob Rae or Field Marshall Dion? Either way, the Liberals have again shown Canadians why they are not capable of forming a government for some time to come.
BIG UPDATE: Dion knew about this a week ago. Watch the Liberals try now to spin and explain Dion and Iggy both knew about the change yet allowed Bob Rae and the rest of the attack machine to try to embarrass the Harper government.

The CBC has acknowledged that Krista Erickson did indeed feed questions to a Liberal MP that were used in questioning Brian Mulroney during the ethics committee hearings, and Krista now has been taken off the Ottawa beat and sent to Toronto.

WTF is wrong with the media in this country
Seriously, would someone like to please explain to me why, arguably the most important story in years regarding our basic rights is being ignored by the main stream media in Canada? If there is a valid reason why the news isn't 'all Ezra, all of the time', I would like to hear it, because not only does this sham proceeding against Ezra effect all Canadian citizens right to free speech and expression, but it also greatly effects the very heart of what the free press/MSM is, and supposedly stand for in a democracy such as Canada.
This should be a bread and butter issue with the Canadian MSM, but yet most of them remain strangely silent as a fellow magazine publisher gets hauled before a government sanctioned body to explain why he published news worthy cartoons in a news magazine, and explain to them what his motives and thoughts were when he did so. Something that threatens the very existence of the free press/MSM is all but being ignored by those that it may have the most profound effect on. I don't even have a word for something like this, but unbefuckinlievable comes close to my thoughts on the entire thing.
As of this writing, a Google news search only produces 54 hits for Ezra Levant. 54!!! 78 with duplicates included and the real sad thing is that almost half of these new stories come from sources OUTSIDE of Canada. If you take out the National Post, Sun Media, and the now online only Western Standard stories from the list, and you are left with a little over a dozen hits on the HRC/Levant story. A quick search of our taxpayer funded CBC News site gives a grand total of zero ( I guess Rex's rant does not qualify as news to Google), and an exact same total of zero hits can be found over at the CTV News website.
Bloggers have again jumped in where the MSM fear to tread, which is to be expected as most of us can see the potential threat in all of this to what we do in our spare time. Even those opposed to Ezra because of his political leanings or past writings should conclude that their own freedom to write that scathing post about Levant, is the exact same right that Ezra exercised when he decided to publish the cartoons.
Freedom of thought, speech, and ideas form the backbone of what it means to live in a free society, and when those basic rights are attacked, threatened or even possibly curtailed, the rest of our rights of which we should hold so dear, are very much in danger themselves of being removed all together.

Mayor Miller calls for a ban on private vehicles in Toronto

Toronto: Mayor Miller today called on the majority Harper government to ban driving and the private ownership of automobiles in the City of Toronto. "There is no reason for any citizen to drive a vehicle within the City of Toronto". Miller said, "It is a crime to the environment and upon every last breathing creature on the earth to do anything else but take the TTC,"adding later that "We have spent billions of tax payer dollars on the TTC to save you from having to feel the guilt of driving."
Critics of the plan, upon having had their criticism scrutinized and approved for publication by the Ontario Human Rights Commission, noted that the excess costs could bankrupt the federal government which currently pays for approximately 90% percent of the GTA budget. "We cannot expect everyone in the country to pay for the utopia that we all know is Toronto." said a spokesman for the critics, being careful to note that at no time did he bring up the issue of private ownership rights as that would be against progressive thinking and be wrong.
Miller quickly shot back that because of the cost savings to the average auto owning citizen; his plan would free up about $500 extra dollars a month that could now be taxed to pay for the added expenses. Miller proudly exclaimed, "The people will be happy to pay extra money if it means they no longer have to worry about driving or the environmental damage they are causing." A consensus of economists praised the idea and supported the mayors numbers citing that $6000 is actually much less than what your average car owner pays in a year for the privilege of driving. "There is plenty of room there for even more taxes."
Calgary: Ezra Levant was denied parole today after he again refused to admit to the thought crimes he was convicted for in 2008. According to witnesses at the hearing, just before Mr Levant was carried away by prison guards for refusing to comply he gave a nasty tongue lashing to members of the parole board saying that they................

I support free speech
I have had no time to blog for weeks now, mostly because I have been working way too many hours, but I am making some time today before I head out to work again tonight to throw my support behind Ezra Levant and the right to free speech.

How is it possible, as Dion says, to have Canada make mega tonnes of money and not harm our economy while we reduce our CO2 emissions, while at the same time accepting the argument from China and India that they must be allowed special circumstances because it will harm their respective 'developing' economies?

Making stuff up; Dion Style
I just finished watching Stephane Dion doing the year end interview thing with Graham Richardson for CTV's Mike Duffy Live.
What a revealing interview it turned out to be.
It would seem that Dion, the self proclaimed hero and environmental champion, either has no clue about CO2 and Norway, or he does know and just decided to lie to the nation and hope nobody was paying attention. It is really too bad for old Stephane that some people were.

In a nutshell Dion stated that achieving the now impossible to achieve Kyoto targets would not be a burden on the economy but rather a boom for it, sort of rephrasing his earlier mega tonnes of money BS. When asked to give an example of another resource based (oil) economy the intellectual named Norway, a country that has increased it's emissions by 25% since 1990 and is now over it's goals by more than 30%.
How could Dion, a so called academic be this wrong with the facts on an issue that he claims is so important to him?
He didn't know and made it up or he did know and just lied about it. Either way he looks like a fool. Are you Liberals really sure that this is the guy you want to go to the polls with whenever the Liberals stop "postponing" the election? Because if what he said during the interview is any indication of what he is going to say during an election campaign, you had better start looking for a good venue for the next LPC leadership convention soon.
While we are on the topic of making stuff up, I see Dion again tried to smear the PM with a quote taken completely out of context, the 'so called greenhouse gases' quote. This originally came about when PM Harper was asked about how the governments environment plan differed from the Liberals plan: .
So either Dion was listening to the likes of Cherniak who tried to run with the smear and does not know the true nature of the quote(that might explain the need for a new communications director for the LPC) or he does know and chose to use it anyway in an effort to deceive for political gain. Again, either way it does not look good on Dion with his promise to run a clean campaign.
Not that you can ever believe any Liberal promise, campaign or otherwise, but this stuff is ridiculous.
I also wanted to get into how the Liberals can possibly reconcile their ideas that reducing CO2 will benefit the economy, while at the same time not wanting to put the 'economic burden' of reducing CO2 on 'so called' developing countries such as China and India, but my time is short. Though somehow I am sure there will be more than a few opportunities to do so in the next few months as Liberals never seem to think anybody notices these contradictions in their policies.

Did the CBC write some of the Liberals Questions to BM today?
Watching CTV after the testimony of former PM Brian Mulroney, Duffy was speaking with former Liberal MP Jean Lapierre who stated that he was told that the CBC wrote some of the questions used by some of the Liberals at the committee hearing today. Those questions dealing not with the airbus, Schrieber fiasco, but with the proposed cellphone spectrum auction.
Could this be true?

John Baird nails it with that quote. Unless China, the US, and India cut their emissions the "climate change" problem will not get solved but rather only become worse with time. It is simple math; yet the climate change consensus crowd who are always shoving 'science' down everyones throats ignore the only real pure science of the argument, the math.
BTW, how can a country that has 1.4 trillion dollars sitting in the bank, and that amount growing by 1 billion per day, be considered poor and a developing country? 1 billion per day!! Perhaps if China were serious about reducing CO2 emissions they could spend their own money on the problem rather than the 15 billion a year they get fromindulgences the carbon trading market, and that money could go to a country that will actually reduce their emissions rather than increasing them like China does.
If the goal is CO2 reduction, China has to be on board.

Why a Public Inquiry is Still Required
Because a Canadian citizen, as well as a former Prime Minister, have been persecuted by not only the Liberal Party, using the powers of government to do so, but also the press in what looks like a political witch hunt from the start.
Let's give the 2 key players what they deserve and have both called for, a public inquiry into how these false stories and political allegations have ruined their names, and why.

So why are we doing this again?
I had my doubts about the need to have an inquiry into the Schreiber/Mulroney affair in the first place, and after today it is looking more and more like this has been a big waste of time and money.
What is being investigated? And why?
Airbus: there is no connection at all to Mulroney and Airbus. Everyone including the RCMP and the Liberal Party of Canada agreed that there was no such connection.
June 23, 1993, mere days before Mulroney left office: Schreiber has stated that an agreement in principle was made with Mr. Mulroney, but NO money changed hands and no money amounts were discussed.
The 2+ Million dollar defamation settlement: This is in regards to the allegations that Mr. Mulroney was involved somehow in Airbus, and everything that exists out there supports Mr. Mulroney's position on this matter that he was not involved.
300K in cash: While this amount of cash could raise questions, there is no law against using cash in this country. Out of curiosity, at what amount of cash does this become an 'issue'? $20, $200, $2000, $200,000 ?
Mulroney's statement about his dealings with Schreiber: Schreiber confirmed that what Mr. Mulroney said was true, and that he did not have any dealings with KHS on Airbus or any other matter at that time.
The letter to the PMO: This never was an issue as the Privy Council already cleared the matter up.
Again, where is the crime and why is the government investigating?
Update: It was a good day and a bad day.
It looks like a good day for KHS as he was granted bail and can now sleep at home in relative peace, although the media will be all over him for the foreseeable future it will be better than jail.
And someone who is not having such a good day would be Liberal MP Robert Thibault. So Robert, how is that defamation suit from Mr. Mulroney coming along?

This from a speech to a gathering of LPC Riding Presidents in Montreal on the weekend as Dion expressed distaste for the partisan conduct of NDP Leader Jack Layton, who showed up at a Montreal climate change conference chaired by Dion in 2005 and predicted the conference would fail due to Canada's lack of credibility on the issue.
Funny coming from a man who is going to Bali, uninvited to scream @ anyone who will listen to him about Canada's 'lack of credibility' on the issue. Fortunately for us, few will know who he is, but somehow I do expect Dion will get much more press in Bali than old Jack did when the conference was held in Canada. Why is that?
