Dion's best line of the week.

"It was an attempt of sabotage," Dion said. "Fortunately, nobody in the world knew who was Jack Layton."

This from a speech to a gathering of LPC Riding Presidents in Montreal on the weekend as Dion expressed distaste for the partisan conduct of NDP Leader Jack Layton, who showed up at a Montreal climate change conference chaired by Dion in 2005 and predicted the conference would fail due to Canada's lack of credibility on the issue.

Funny coming from a man who is going to Bali, uninvited to scream @ anyone who will listen to him about Canada's 'lack of credibility' on the issue. Fortunately for us, few will know who he is, but somehow I do expect Dion will get much more press in Bali than old Jack did when the conference was held in Canada. Why is that?

Martha Hall Findlay: Smacked down on Duffy

Yesterday Martha Hall Findlay got smacked down again on CTV Newsnets Mike Duffy Live (Video link at the bottom of this posting), but this time it wasn't from conservative John Reynolds.

This time it was NDP strategist Joy Macphail who knocked Martha around like the political lightweight she is after MHF tried using the very tired old Liberal line that the environment problem (and basically every other problem as well) would have already been fixed if Jack Layton wouldn't have pulled the plug on the Paul Martin government. Yes folks, she is taking lessons from Scott Reid, who regularly makes a fool of himself on the Duffy show with among other things, his blame Jack Layton for the election crap.


To paraphrase:

Macphail: It wasn't Jack Layton who pulled the plug on the election; Paul Martin himself stated he would call an election in February 2006. So are you suggesting to me that the Liberals would have resolved the climate change issues, and meet Kyoto targets in the additional 30 days before Paul Martin would have scheduled it? Stop spinning on such a serious issue.

Martha totally ignores the facts about Martin calling an election for Feb 06 and stumbles out something about how the Liberals could have been kept alive if the NDP had supported them.

Macphail: "Paul Martin called the election for February 06. Did you forget that? Is he so dishonoured in your own party now, that you forget what Paul Martin did?"

Martha tries to speak but FLINCHES (watch for it) as Macphail adds : "What, has he been wiped off the face of the earth from the annals of Liberal history now?

MHF again avoids the facts and calls for action on the environment now.

The segment goes onto the Afghan prisoner story and again MHF totally avoids answering the question, this time from Duffy, and goes into preprogrammed spin about honesty.

A true Liberal and part of the Dion dream team in action; avoid the facts, do not answer questions, change the subject, but most of all just keep spinning.

Smackdown today on Duffy

My kingdom for a pvr, hopefully someone else grabs this and gets it up because it was a beauty.

John Reynolds, talking about the so called "smear" yesterday where the PM stated his wishes that the Liberals would show more support for our troops, laid a smackdown on Martha Hall Finlay.

MHF was going on about how bad the 'smear' was and Reynolds took exception noting that conservatives have been constantly smeared by the Liberals for years and ended the Duffy segment with this line.

"Thats politics, grow up"

John Reynolds is having a good day for being quote worthy. This from a CTV story on the latest poll numbers.

"Former Conservative MP John Reynolds, one of the prime minister's closest confidantes and the man who will run the Tory's next election campaign, was buoyed by the positive reaction to the budget.

"I like winning -- and we're going to win a majority government," he told CTV News."

Cue the outrage, again.

So this is what the fuss is about?

"I can understand the passion that the leader of the Opposition and members of his party feel for Taliban prisoners, I just wish occasionally they would show the same passion for Canadian soldiers."

"I would like to see more support in the House of Commons from all sides for Canadian men and women in uniform," Harper said.

"I think Canadians expect that from parliamentarians in every party. They have not been getting it, and they deserve it."

So the PM states what he would like to see more of in the HOC, and right on cue the Libs are again screaming about him being a bully. I see no outright smear, perhaps there is a bit of a guilty conscious thing happening here but little things like actual words mean nothing when playing the outraged victim card.

OK all you outraged Liberals, prove the PM wrong. Grab your Hansard and see if you can find some examples recently where the Liberals have indeed voiced support for the troops. No "we support the troops but......" quotes either please, context is key.

No Liberals yet up to my challenge but Steve Janke has some thoughts on the Liberal defense critic Denis Coderre.

The Liberals can't even get it done in opposition, and other thoughts.

My blogging has been light this week, and I missed commenting on many news items, including the big Garth story (which I will comment on later in this post), because for most of this week I have been working to not only support my family, but also as a result of that hard work, I get to send a nice chunk of those earnings to Ottawa in taxes.

So speaking as a taxpayer, I feel that I am not getting my monies worth from the Liberal Party.

Yes they are the opposition, and I get it, but if they really are so concerned with the environment, senate reform, crime, or just about everything else they claim to be concerned with, why are the Liberals using every type of delay or stall tactic available to hold up the government from getting anything done? Just look to the Liberal dominated Senate taking 255 days with Bill S4, which sets term limits on Senators, and think back to how that same Senate handled the accountability act ,which was conveniently delayed until after the Liberal convention, as examples of not only delay but also as examples of how they are deliberately wasting our tax dollars with this nonsense.

They wasted our money while they were in power, and now they are doing it in opposition all the while claiming to be concerned with _____________________. -----Insert issue here, the Libs support 'em all.

"Mr. Speaker, I want to take this opportunity to address an inconvenient truth, not the movie but rather the inconvenient truth about the opposition leader's record on the environment.

The previous Liberal government talked a good game when it came to the environment but the truth is that in 13 years it did not get it done.

Under the Liberals' watch, greenhouse gas emissions rose to an astonishing 35% above Canada's Kyoto targets. Under their watch, Canada slid to 28 out of 29 OECD countries in air quality rankings. Under their watch, Canada set records for the number of smog advisory days in our cities.

Canadians are demanding action and finally getting it from a new Conservative government that in just one year has established a reputation for action on the issues most important to the people we represent.

Wearing a green scarf does not make the Liberal leader an environmental champion any more than wearing a blue and white jersey and a foam finger makes a 40 year old with a beer gut the captain of the Maple Leafs.

As for the opposition leader's now famous dog named Kyoto, my seven year old daughter could name every one of her stuffed animals A-plus but she would still have to take responsibility if she earned an F on her report card."

To top it off, this was the last statement before Stephane Dion started off oral questions.

Champion of 'social justice' Dion, leader of the 'party of the charter', may bar men from seeking nomination for the LPC. Remember kids, it is not discrimination if Liberals do it. Some Libloggers agree that it is not a good idea for obvious reasons.

To quote the secret memo from PM Harper's office on this subject, " Hahahahahaha, hahahahaha!!

Almost everything this guy has ever claimed to believe in has been the polar opposite of Liberal Party policy, and now he joins them; priceless.

The thought of Belinda, Bob Rae, and Garth Turner working together for the cause of Stephane Dion and the Liberal Party of Canada makes me laugh, not because it is just so preposterous in appearance, but because all of them would be happier if Dion was gone and they could be in charge.
