George W Bush was in town yesterday for a speaking engagement and as expected the protesters were out in full force for the cameras. Nothing out of the ordinary really as GWB has always had this ability to drive the left absolutely nutty, but watching the news last night I wondered just how many of those people protesting would be doing the same thing if it was Obama in town rather than GWB. Afterall the Obama administration has not exactly changed much if anything from the last guy in the way of policy, in spite of what they said during the campaign, and in some ways they have done some things that make GWB look good by comparison.
Case in point: the vilification of Fox News.
Normally in a non bizarro world if a President and their administration tried to control or manipulate the media, or direct opinion on the media, bloggers, the media, and the left would go batshit crazy over these efforts, and rightfully so. But in this case not so much. In fact they are getting support for their efforts from not only some others in the MSM but from lefty groups such as MoveOn.org Contrast that with what would have happened if GWB did the same thing with CNN or MSNBC.
Taken from a more Canadian perspective could you imagine what the reaction would be if PM Harper or someone from the PMO went on to CTV and Global and declared that the CBC was not a news organization because they had an agenda and therefore the CBC and any of their stories should be ridiculed and ignored? Yes it would get ugly and it would get ugly fast. Remember early on when the PM got the PPG all worked up because he had the audacity to try to have some control over HIS OWN pressers and asked reporters to put their names on a list to ask questions? The press and the left went nuts and we are still seeing the effects of that even today in stories from the MSM when they sneak references into their reporting of how the PM likes to 'control' everything.
So where is the outrage on what the Obama administration is trying to do?
Vilifying a news organization because you do not like the stories they are doing about you is not only petty & cheap, it exposes your lack of leadership, thin skin and inability to deal with criticism, and it just reeks of something seen in 3rd world countries and dictatorships and is not what one would expect to see from the leadership of a free and democratic country such as the USA. Wrong is wrong.
There are ways to deal with negative or even slanted press stories, fighting back with the truth is the best IMHO, but the government trying to control/manipulate or even vilify the press is not the way to do it and in fact it is a very dangerous game to be playing in a free and open society. But it is a game that the left, in this case because they dislike Fox News so much, is only too happy to play. The next time this game gets played however the left may not be so supportive and when they scream out in outrage it will ring hollow because the last time it was played everyone will remember that the left were on the side lines cheering it all on.
To be fair there has been some backlash from this coming mainly from the press but you know as well as I that the level of outrage we have seen over this so far is nowhere close to what it would have been if GWB or even PM Harper had done the same thing.

Does that mean she is a liar?
Did Michael Ignatieff call a 26 yr old hill staffer who worked for Natural Resources Minister Lisa Raitt a liar? Here is a bit of what he said on the subject.
Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff called the minister's allowance of a staffer to take the blame "despicable". "It's presumably the same staffer responsible for the isotope shortage and it's presumably this 26-year-old who is responsible for the whole darned department" "How are we supposed to believe such a fiction?"
The staffer in question has taken responsibility and resigned over the incident.
I am just a knuckle-dragger so tell me dear Liberal friends if I have got this wrong. If Michael Ignatieff thinks that this is all a "fiction", does that not mean that he thinks the staffer is lying? Because that is what I am getting out of it.

This Weeks Outrage: Entertainment Industry Edition.
Not to be out done by the big "entertainment industry outrage" story this week about an obscure late night Fox News show called Redeye where the host and guest panel basically dissed the Canadian Armed Forces in a lame attempt at humour; Britney Spears seems to have stirred up some outrage of her own with the release of a new song, "If U Seek Amy".
Shocked? I know I am because I did not think that there could possibly be any outrage for the entertainment industry left after the fallout from the Redeye thing. I mean it was everywhere; first on the blogs, then the papers, and when it had eventually made it onto the television news I thought that there could not be anymore, but I was wrong. Wrong because my fellow citizens have once again proven that the well of outrage towards entertainers seems to never come up dry.
So a big thank you to my fellow citizens for the good work. It is because of you that I can sleep at night knowing of your efforts to keep the entertainers closely monitored for the nasty and evil crime of offending people.
And here I thought that this was the reason why we have HRC's.

It's a Scandal!!
Liberal Strategy 101: When you got nothing else, or you need to take the eyes of the nation away from internal Liberal woes, cry scandal.
Cadscam is just another such example. This story is still developing and I will update as more facts come up, but are there any takers on how this one will turn out?
No, I do not claim to have the spooky Kreskin like powers of Rick Mercer and know the future, but it feels like I have seen this movie before. In fact I think I have seen this same plot line many times over the last 2 years in MSM/LPC productions.

Thoughts and opinions with a few links for Nov 16th 2007.
As promised in an earlier post, the great Steve Janke has more on the details of the old in and out.
"Mr. Schreiber is saying that he's not trying to use the court system to delay his extradition to Germany," CTV's Ottawa Bureau Chief Robert Fife said Thursday.
So the Liberals might be revisiting something else other than the GST. Could this be the issue that gets the Liberals up off of their hands? Just do your jobs and fix the damn thing up in committee. All parties basically agree and if you can't do what you get paid for and work together on such a small bill, then lets get on with the election so things can be accomplished.

NASCAR, Sponsorship and the Left.
Unbelievable.
The left seems to be under the impression that the Canadian public actually gives a rat's ass about how the Conservative Party of Canada spends it's own money.
NEWSFLASH!!! They don't, and all of this feigned outrage from the Liberals and NDP is only making themselves look foolish to those whose votes they covet. Get over it. The cost of this is not covered by government money, but your wages are, so speaking as a taxpayer please stop wasting time on a non issue. If you still are that upset over this, than please send in your 10 bucks and become a member of the CPC to have your say. (Come and join in with the many thousands of other Canadians who already have signed up to the CPC, you will be glad you did)
Speaking of sponsoring racing in general; does anyone else find it strange that the Liberals are even talking about this? I seem to remember the last time the Liberals were involved in auto racing that a rather large amount of Government money was (mis)spent in Quebec on placing large Canada signs at various events. Many Liberals like to refer to this period as "The Happy Times", but now prefer to forget it ever occurred or that anyone in government was responsible. A strange strategy indeed.

This time they have gone too far!!
The evil conservative right wing agenda has revealed itself. They have finally gone to far, and I do not know about you, but I am not going to put up with this nonsense in any way shape or form from the Harper government
I do understand that sometimes things are done by governments to try to gain the votes among certain select areas of the population, but this is so over the top that I have to speak out on behalf of my country.
What am I talking about you ask?
Earlier today ,while I was visiting an official website of a department of the government of Canada, I came across this and managed to get a screenshot of the madness.

It might be a subversive way to help meet our Kyoto targets, or it just might be a ploy to piss off Paul Martin's buddy Bono and appeal to Bob Geldof, but either way this outright pandering for votes must stop immediately. I am unsure how Stephane Dion feels about this, but all I can say is that so far his silence on this has been greatly disturbing.

Shane Doan, exposing stupid politicians everywhere.
Gilles Duceppe digs that hole just a little deeper with his latest thoughts on the Shane Doan fiasco.
From The Star : Gilles Duceppe said it was wrong to make Doan captain of Canada's world championship team while the star forward remains embroiled in two defamation suits related to the alleged anti-French slur. "When someone robs a bank he's presumed innocent until proven guilty – but I don't know many people who'd name them bank manager while the trial's still on," Duceppe said. "They want to name him captain even before the verdict comes in. It makes no sense. It's an insult to Quebecers."
My sides are hurting here from the laughter. Gilles figures that Doan should not be the captain of Team Canada while Doan is involved in 2 lawsuits with Denis Coderre, but it is OK for himself to be the leader of the BQ while he is involved with Stephane Dion in a defamation suit of his own.

Cue the outrage, again.
So this is what the fuss is about?
"I can understand the passion that the leader of the Opposition and members of his party feel for Taliban prisoners, I just wish occasionally they would show the same passion for Canadian soldiers."
"I would like to see more support in the House of Commons from all sides for Canadian men and women in uniform," Harper said."I think Canadians expect that from parliamentarians in every party. They have not been getting it, and they deserve it."
So the PM states what he would like to see more of in the HOC, and right on cue the Libs are again screaming about him being a bully. I see no outright smear, perhaps there is a bit of a guilty conscious thing happening here but little things like actual words mean nothing when playing the outraged victim card.
OK all you outraged Liberals, prove the PM wrong. Grab your Hansard and see if you can find some examples recently where the Liberals have indeed voiced support for the troops. No "we support the troops but......" quotes either please, context is key.

" said, not said, implied, telepathically telegraphed , subliminally suggested; actually I am not sure how the above words sent the Liberals into a frenzy, but they have.
Maybe the LPC website can help me find the answers: "Prime Minister Stephen Harper must immediately withdraw allegations he made....", "Mr. Harper’s actions today are the worst ...", "...the Prime Minister explicitly suggested that..., "There can be no doubt about the Prime Minister's intention...", "....there is no doubt about what that insult was intended to be.", "Mr. Bains also demanded that the Prime Minister apologize for the smear.", "I had the opportunity to listen to the Prime Minister attack my integrity....".
Allegations? Smear? Attack? From this "
Nothing was said people. You have no idea what the PM was going to say or where the statement was leading, because he never had a chance to finish. To claim otherwise puts you into a category with the Amazing Kreskin for 'psychic abilities', and if it is indeed the case than perhaps you could use your talent for good and email me next weeks winning 649 numbers.
If there is a legitimate complaint to be made, it would be against the Vancouver Sun as it was from their story that the PM was referring to, and as their story, they are responsible for its content. Yet somehow I do not expect to see a wild mob of angry sign carrying protesters at the offices of the Sun tomorrow screaming for an apology for this 'smear' and 'attack', because there would be no political capital in going after the source when the messenger makes a much better channel changer from the Liberals current problems.
Update: A Step to the Right has an interview up with Kim Bolan the writer of the article at the center of this Liberal faux outrage.
What is really interesting is that in the interview she states that she had talked with some Liberals before writing the story and that they were aware of the content of the story; this group includes Navdeep Singh Bains.
This Liberal 'outrage' does not pass the smell test and it looks like it was indeed orchestrated and planned in advance as part of the Liberals continuing Campaign of Fear™. The Libs knew about the story, they had a copy of the story (in their media package all MPs receive) and they were so ready (in advance) to leap to their feet in outrage that they did not even wait for the PM to say ANYTHING that could cause such a reaction. Even the Susan Bonner from the CBC agrees "They were ready for this. They were primed and they were angry," Bonner said.
Liberals using manufactured outrage for their own political gain; why am I not surprised.
