Cartoonist Bruce MacKinnon finds himself facing the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission, and the Halifax police, over a complaint about this cartoon published April 18th in Nova Scotia's leading newspaper, the Chronicle Herald. (cbc)

Zia Khan, director of the Centre for Islamic Development in Halifax, said the cartoon goes beyond what can be considered free speech. He said the group also filed a complaint with the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission, and Khan's group also called police on April 21.

Another offensive cartoon; oh the humanity of it all.

I am not the biggest fan of Bruce MacKinnon and his work as he has taken more than a few shots at the Prime Minister and other conservatives in the past. Although to be fair, I must admit that once in awhile he does get it right. But whether or not I like his work is irrelevant, because Mr. Mackinnon has the right to express his views and opinions and any threat to those expressions is not only an assault on his rights, but also to my rights, and YOURS as well.

Mr. Mackinnon, I may not like or agree with what you draw, but you damn well have my support in the fight to keep on doing it. I wonder on which side Mr. Kinsella will find himself to be supporting this time?

Updated: I was thinking earlier today that since I posted the 'offensive' cartoon on my blog that I might be opening myself up to the same kind of thing that happened to Ezra. Remember he did not draw the cartoons, but only published them in the Western Standard because they were newsworthy, which is kind of what I have done above. Oh oh!

Does anyone else find it strange that the person depicted in the cartoon is not the one who is bringing forward the complaints? How the hell can a 'group' be offended by the depiction of an individual?

I think that MacKinnon did a real good job with his drawing, but now I am left even more confused as to what the actual problem is, and why someone other than Ms. Jamal would take issue.

Human Rights Commission: UN Edition

Being that most of you are familiar with what is going on in Canada with some of our various Human Rights Commissions, I thought it might be of interest to take a look at what has been going on at the UN and their Human Rights Council.

The top U.N. rights body on Thursday passed a resolution proposed by Islamic countries saying it is deeply concerned about the defamation of religions and urging governments to prohibit it. Although the text refers frequently to protecting all religions, the only religion specified as being attacked is Islam, to which eight paragraphs refer.

The UN Human Rights Council adopted Thursday the resolution-- proposed by Islamic countries-- on a 21-10 vote over the opposition of Europe and Canada. (Thank you Mr. Harper)

Speaking for the EU, Slovenian Ambassador Andrej Logar said the 27-nation body was committed to tolerance, nondiscrimination and freedom of religion. But instead of a one-sided approach, it would be better to engage in dialogue with mutual respect.

The Saudi delegation said, "Maybe Islam is one of the most obvious victims of aggressions under the pretext of freedom of expression." "It is regrettable that there are false translations and interpretations of the freedom of expression," the Saudi delegation told the council, adding that no culture should incite to religious hatred by attacking sacred teachings."

The airbus story goes on and on, and like myself, Bob Fife thinks all of this is only going to benefit Shreiber.

"Mr. Schreiber is saying that he's not trying to use the court system to delay his extradition to Germany," CTV's Ottawa Bureau Chief Robert Fife said Thursday.

"That's just completely unbelievable."

Fife said Schreiber has had opportunities over the last 15 years to come forward with any allegations of wrongdoing.

"If he knew about this meeting with Mr. Mulroney he should have told people a long time ago," said Fife.

"The only reason he's talking about this now is that he's on the doorstep to being extradited to Germany."

My guess is Mr. Mulroney will also do well himself in all of this, and the liberals will again not be happy the longer this drags out over time.

Speaking of Canadian justice; There is a big difference between a volunteer army and one that drafts people into it. The SCoC agrees, Elizabeth May and Shirley Douglas are outraged, Keifer Sutherland had no comment.

A few from todays news.

Some Canada Post employees have assumed the role of censor over your mail and refuse to deliver "anti-gay" mail. So for all the Canada Post employees out there, it isn't your job to read the mail and decide if its content is proper, it is your job to deliver it.

Whether or not it is hate literature is up to some kind of judicial body to decide, posties and left wing bloggers should not be the ones to decide this type of thing but yet some feel that it is somehow their responsibility. Again the alleged 'pro rights' people of the left go out of their way to stomp out others rights because they think they know better. Imagine a conservative refusing to deliver a NDP mailer to people on his route, me thinks his union would not be backing him up.

With all the coverage on the Peter Mackay 'a gesture is worth 1000 words' story and how the conservatives hate women comes this little story about a group of people who really do hate women. An Australian Imam comments that appear to be justifying rape is in hot water when he stated "If you take out uncovered meat and place it outside ... without cover, and the cats come to eat it ... whose fault is it, the cats' or the uncovered meat's?"

I tried finding this story on CBC but came up empty, but I did get 13 hits for the Mackay dog story, go figure. I guess blaming the victim in a rape and calling women meat does not rate when compared to a non story about a dog in the eyes of Canada's public broadcaster, or maybe it is just because they are not cat people?

Those cartoons are back in the news as a Danish court spoke out in favour of free speech. Free speech again wins out, at least for now.

As Joe Pesci would say "yoots on the rampage" and Paris is burning. Does anyone want to take a guess on the majority religious preferences of said yoots? Nah, I wouldn't want to speculate since the press is doing such a good job avoiding this very question and doing their politically correct best not to get firebombed. Who am I to state the obvious.

The enemy within

On CBC earlier tonight The National had a segment entitled "The Enemy Within". It dealt with what Britain and Holland are doing about the 'Islamic threat' and how multiculturalism has failed as a policy; all from the perspective of a Canadian and our 'views' on the subject. I figured it was going to be a fluff piece or a slam so I figured I would raise my blood pressure and watch it.

Was I surprised. Yes Mark Kelley went in with all the 'liberal/Canadian' values you could expect from a CBC correspondent and he was upfront about it, even throwing out all the cliche's about how Canadians think multiculturalism is above reproach, and to be against it would be racist. From what I just wrote you might figure how the report would have progressed, but much to my surprise it was a very well done piece about how the situation in Europe is forcing changes in opinion on multicuturalism, integration and immigration policy.

The part that I found interesting was that our Canadian values, many of which were borrowed from Europe, were the same values that many of those interviewed once held, but the reality of what we see in all of our daily papers has made some of the most tolerant people on earth change their views on multiculturalism. Dutch MP Geert Wilders did a good job of summing it up nicely after being told that they have racist policies and that he has lost his tolerance; 'if we want to keep our tolerance...after decades of ignorant policy....we should learn to be intolerant to the intolerant, and if we do that we can keep our tolerance.'

This sounds like great advice that I am sure will be called racist by the left, you know the ones that would be the first to lose rights under Islamic law but yet support the terror from within, but if the Islamists can do this to the very tolerant Dutch peoples opinions, it deserves a re-think while we still have the chance.

Hello, this is reality calling........wake up!

I was away from all things electric for a few days and have yet to comment on the foiled terror attacks this past weekend.

My first thoughts were of the good job that the various law enforcement agencies did on this matter. It is hard to quantify the possible effects of what could have been had these clowns managed to succeed in their plans; property damage can be costed but not the effects of the unknown number of lives saved. Thank you.

So much has been blogged on the subject that it will take me some time before I can view what others are saying on all sides of the political spectrum, and I can comment more, but I will leave you with another of my initial thoughts.

Is this the wake up call or do we have to wait for one of these groups to succeed before we end all the political correct bullshit and confront the problem

The question I would ask.

Do you believe in the separation of church/religion and state?

Yes or No?

It is this question that should be asked of all those who are currently, in one way or another, protesting the Danish Cartoons. It is a simple question that is neither confrontational nor offensive, but will provide a great deal of information about the one who answers it and their belief system.


The one answer is a major principle of what our western society was founded on, while the other answer is just the opposite, and perhaps the greatest threat to western society.

Think about it?

The cartoon controversy continues and has moved into Canada. While it was a calm and peaceful demonstration, some of the comments by those protesting show that they just don't get it. The right to free speech cannot and will not be compromised because you are offended, deal with it and move on.

As usual the protesters were not the only ones who do not understand the issue.

According to the CTV report:


Randi Warne, a religious studies professor at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, said non-Muslims should try to empathize with the outrage Muslims feel.
"I think we should ask ourselves how people would feel in the West if pictures of Jesus were being drawn this way, committing heinous acts or in compromising positions," she told CTV Atlantic.
"I'm quite sure that there would be outrage all around the world."

This is so ridiculous I have to wonder how she is capable of finding her way to work in the morning without getting lost. For a person whose job it is to teach religious studies to not be aware of the countless examples of Jesus being the target of various forms of attacks, boggles the mind. From the NEA funded 'Piss Christ' to the current edition of Rolling Stone this stuff is everywhere and only if you have been living in a closet would you have not seen these or other examples. If I was a student at MSVU in the religious studies program I might be seeking my money back if Randi Warne is an example of the great thinkers that teach there.
